Gary Morris founded Bright Lights Film Journal as a print publication in 1974; it became a web-only magazine in 1996. He is the author of the monograph Roger Corman (Twayne Publishers, 1985) and the editor of Action! Interviews with Directors from Classical Hollywood to Contemporary Iran (Anthem Press, 2009). He has written extensively on film for a variety of print and online publications including SF Weekly, San Francisco Chronicle, Morphizm, Financial Times, SF Bay Guardian, and Close-up and Cineforum (Italy). He was an advisor on International Dictionary of Films and Filmmakers and a contributor to the online academic arts website glbqt.com. He served as a jury member at the 1993 Torino Film Festival and as guest programmer of the jazz film component of the Locarno Film Festival in 2000. He also toils writing marketing copy for publishers and editing textbooks.
